Edge of Glory
The Edge of Glory

One of my favourite songs at the moment is “The Edge of Glory” by Lady Gaga. It is about “your last moment on earth, the moment of truth, the moment before you leave the earth”, And it also screams out  ’be a champion in your own life and live the moment’.

Some people like to live on the edge, whilst others like to hang onto the edge, and some even leap over the edge.
This got me thinking about my own edge of glory. I wonder if i am living my life right to the edge, to my fullest capacity. Am i stretching myself to go beyond my own limitations to achieve my true potential ?
The answer is …YES. And there is so much more i can do.
On a recent vacation to Bali, I stretched myself beyond my own self imposed limitations.  Before i learnt about techniques on dealing with fear, i was terribly afraid of heights.  There were many things that i thought i would never do. Parasailing was one of them. My fear of heights has disappeared, and i embrace every opportunity to show that i no longer have this fear.
So up up and away i went. Parasailing is a recreational kiting activity where a person is towed behind a boat whilst attached to a specially designed canopy wing that looks like a parachute.
My first question to the men providing this fun experience was “are you going to tell me how to steer it?”. In other words, i wanted to know how to control this piece of equipment.  Little did i know, you have very little or no control over the parasail.
They told me all i needed to know was which rope to pull on. The blue rope or the red rope. My instructions were that when the guy below crosses his hand held flags over each other, that means “don’t pull on the blue rope”. When he raised the flags in the air, it was time to “pull on the blue rope”. This sounded easy enough.
So i was harnessed up and and told to run. “Run, Run, Run” they said. As i began to run, my body was jolted into the air and within seconds I was flying as high as an eagle. The boat below me was a tiny speck in the ocean. My family on the shore were all but ants.
I felt as though the rope that bonded me to the boat could break. If it did, i wondered if i would just float away. Being up so high was amazing. The adrenaline kicked in and i felt on top of the world as i realised that yet again, i had surpassed my own limitations.
I enjoyed the view as i floated along, then the guy with the flag was yelling at me through the megaphone. I wasn’t paying attention to the man with the flag.  He had been indicating that it was time for me to pull on the blue rope and descend to the shore. I couldn’t believe that my time in the air was up so quickly. So i pulled on the blue rope and glided swiftly down to the shore, to what the guide described as, “a perfect landing”.
Parasailing was a rush. In the moment when i landed, i felt like a true champion in my own life,  conquering my own fears and raised my hands up in the air as this was my edge of glory.
What is your edge of glory ? How are you living your life to your fullest potential ?
